10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always exciting for a lot of us. But it needs to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up throughout the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your house?
The outside of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your home in Mesquite, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save you a lot of money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the optimal time to clean out your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris accumulated during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not give you too much of a headache, but second and third floor windows are a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem strange since you’ll be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to overlook it during the winter since you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in bad shape the first time you step onto it in the spring.
Detergent and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or algae, you need to consider a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Mesquite. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it’s a great time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles can’t be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then let it be. This solution will eliminate all organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is going to be what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will even motivate you to spend a lot more time outside.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it for a fresh look! Clean forgotten areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will soon be spending more time outside, so spring is an excellent opportunity to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Yard tools and pool care equipment need to all have a specific place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the outside of your home so much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a huge impact on the look of your home.
Get rid of weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can make you and your family sick.
Wet it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
You can probably complete these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Mesquite Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
